There's no such thing as home, it's all just an idea...

... i promise.

"What is our purpose, our meaning? Why are we all here and what are we each supposed to do? Is there some predetermined plan driving all the decisions that we make, or are we ourselves making our choices based on our own free wills?"
I've been asking myself this for a few years, and i haven't gotten any closer to an answer. Its like.. some of us were here to show others how to be just, how to be accepting, and tolerant, but what were those people's purposes? to challenge the ones trying to show them the truth? maybe it's just a big giant circle of mind numbing goodness and everyone is meant to be there for someone else.. and if it is such a set thing, then why would it even happen in the first place, why do we need it? i know i'm asking more and more questions, but its a question that can only be answered by questions.

"Childhood is about magic, but teen is about mystery. It is a time where the world suddenly gets closer and the colors get brighter, rules seem ready to be broken."
we start to grow up - teenage years - and we experiment, we find out who we are. i love this quote because it really is true... we don't know what's out there, we have to find it all out. everything is fair game

"You all may have different problems, but it is the same problem - you gotta figure out what you want."

the trojan war

The darkness was thick enough to choke you. The young boy tip-toed about, looking in all directions. He saw his first victim - an elderly man walking from what seemed to be a tavern. his knife plunged into the old sagging skin, and the man let out a howl that would scare a bear away. A quick slice of his sensitive neck, and he lay slumped, silent, and unmoving on the dirty ground. The young boy turned around and motioned for the others to follow him. They invaded the town, killing every man woman and child, and accidentally slaying the fair maiden Helen. They shot their light beam into the air to signal their triumphant outcome, and the ship appeared above them.
"Beam me up, scotty," the captain whispered. "We have defeated the huns." He rose into the air, dripping the blood of those he had killed onto the ground below.

Attraction

I entered a room
heard your voice
smelled your smell
I looked around
saw not your face
felt not your embrace
I wait impatiently in my head
seeing your face
hearing your voice
I lose myself in thoughts of you
What they say is true
Absence makes the heart grow fonder

The Summer I Was Fourteen

The blue sky reached down to touch us,
Its clouds white wisps of nostalgia
We walk, aimlessly, through our precious parks
Where the swings squeak and the air smells of sunshine.

Chasing dragons from our dreams, we spilled
Secrets in sweet slumber parties.
Night. Adventurous, and trailing love,
We crept, met, and fell deeper,

Dancing to music only we can hear.
Past dark windows, empty playgrounds, shadows,
We come to fields where children played
Childhood games and fun. We held

Flashlight torches, light as day,
Shared warmth on benches beneath moon shadows.
Sagittarius. Pisces. Orion’s Belt. We laid our tired
Backs on green grass, hands held tight.

Humming familiar words, and studying
Mysterious dark skies and unfamiliar feelings
Rising in naïve hearts. Thumping loudly
In a silent, improbable world.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

"You can't stop the future. You can't rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret... is to press play.

Clay Jensen doesn't want anything to do with the tapes Hannah Baker made. Hannah is dead, he reasons. Her secrets should be buried with her. Then Hannah's voice tells Clay that his name is on her tapes - and that he is, in some way, responsible for her death. All through the night, Clay keeps listening. He follows Hannah's recorded words throughout his small town...
... and what he discovers changes his life forever."

This is an amazing read about a girl who just couldn't take it anymore. Marvelously writen, and beautifully reasoned, its sure to capture your attention like it did mine. One of the most influential books I've read.

Dove – realization.

So today is going to be different than the past videos.
A few days ago, I was reading another blog, and found the Dove commercials below. After watching them, I wish that people knew about this and were aware of all this when I was a little girl. Maybe I wouldn’t have so much trouble with my self-image, and maybe my fellow classmates might not have so much trouble with trying to fit in, or trying to be perfect or anything like that.
Dove's campaign is clearly meant to demonize the messaging that the beauty industry thrusts upon us at every turn. The ads messaging is clear. "Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does"

and

"No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted"

An odd thing for a company whose parent company Unilever owns Slimfast, Axe body spray and other products clearly contributing to this phenomenon.

But the ads sure are jawdroppers.
