The Summer I Was Fourteen
The blue sky reached down to touch us,
Its clouds white wisps of nostalgia
We walk, aimlessly, through our precious parks
Where the swings squeak and the air smells of sunshine.
Chasing dragons from our dreams, we spilled
Secrets in sweet slumber parties.
Night. Adventurous, and trailing love,
We crept, met, and fell deeper,
Dancing to music only we can hear.
Past dark windows, empty playgrounds, shadows,
We come to fields where children played
Childhood games and fun. We held
Flashlight torches, light as day,
Shared warmth on benches beneath moon shadows.
Sagittarius. Pisces. Orion’s Belt. We laid our tired
Backs on green grass, hands held tight.
Humming familiar words, and studying
Mysterious dark skies and unfamiliar feelings
Rising in naïve hearts. Thumping loudly
In a silent, improbable world.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.
"You can't stop the future. You can't rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret... is to press play.
Clay Jensen doesn't want anything to do with the tapes Hannah Baker made. Hannah is dead, he reasons. Her secrets should be buried with her. Then Hannah's voice tells Clay that his name is on her tapes - and that he is, in some way, responsible for her death. All through the night, Clay keeps listening. He follows Hannah's recorded words throughout his small town...
... and what he discovers changes his life forever."
This is an amazing read about a girl who just couldn't take it anymore. Marvelously writen, and beautifully reasoned, its sure to capture your attention like it did mine. One of the most influential books I've read.

Dove – realization.
A few days ago, I was reading another blog, and found the Dove commercials below. After watching them, I wish that people knew about this and were aware of all this when I was a little girl. Maybe I wouldn’t have so much trouble with my self-image, and maybe my fellow classmates might not have so much trouble with trying to fit in, or trying to be perfect or anything like that.
Dove's campaign is clearly meant to demonize the messaging that the beauty industry thrusts upon us at every turn. The ads messaging is clear. "Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does"
and
"No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted"
An odd thing for a company whose parent company Unilever owns Slimfast, Axe body spray and other products clearly contributing to this phenomenon.
But the ads sure are jawdroppers.
what are your thoughts on this?
